Flow in the Forest 2025: a UK flow and fire arts event.

This September, a new spark is being lit. 🌲🔥 From Thursday 18th – Monday 22nd September 2025, the very first Flow in the Forest will take place in Horseheath, Cambridgeshire – and you’re invited to be part of our history: the UK’s first dedicated fire and flow arts festival of it's kind, blending Flow and Fire arts with up and coming UK musical talent in a equinox festival celebration of fire and flow.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants

Flow in the Forest could not exist without the amazing community that came before us. We’ve been inspired by the incredible work of pLaY Festival, the pioneering Phoenix Fire Convention, and the fiery magic of the Liverpool Fire Festival. These events proved just how powerful fire, circus, and flow gatherings can be, and we’re honoured to carry that torch into a new chapter.

The UK also has a long and proud tradition of juggling conventions, which have built the backbone of our circus community:

  • British Juggling Convention (BJC) – founded in 1988, it remains the UK’s largest juggling event and an annual highlight for spinners, jugglers, and performers (Wikipedia).

  • European Juggling Convention (EJC) – first held in Brighton in 1978, with just 11 jugglers, it’s now the largest juggling event in the world.

  • Broxford Juggling & Circus Convention – formerly the Bristol Juggling Convention, this week-long meet in southern England brings together hundreds of jugglers each year.

  • Bungay Balls Up – a legendary Suffolk gathering, running for more than 20 years on a farm, with a 24-hour juggling tent, games, and a wood-fired sauna (review).

  • Plus so many more regional conventions like Leeds, Camvention, Chocfest, Lestival, Nottingham, and the countless university and community juggling clubs who keep the art alive (Juggling Edge UK events).

To all of these events and clubs, and to every organiser, performer, volunteer, service provider, supporter, ticket buyer, commenter, sharer, and liker – thank you. Flow in the Forest is here because of your efforts.

The History of Fire & Flow Festivals

Fire and flow gatherings have a more recent but equally inspiring history. The first dedicated event was Firedrums, hosted in San Francisco in 2004, blending fire spinning and drumming in a small beach gathering. Since then, festivals like Wildfire, Pacific Fire Gathering, and FLAME Festival have spread across the US and beyond, shaping what modern flow festivals look like (DrexFactor).

The term “Flow Arts” itself only really crystallised in the mid-2000s, shaped by communities of poi spinners, hoop dancers, staff artists, and object manipulators connecting online and at events (Flow Arts Institute). Pioneers like “Burning Dan” Gordon-Levitt and forums such as Home of Poi and HoopCity created the language and philosophy of “flow” that we celebrate today.

Flow in the Forest 2025 is proud to continue this lineage – bringing together juggling tradition with the evolution of fire and flow arts into one unique UK festival.
